But the whistleblower, Dr John Bates, a top NOAA scientist with an impeccable reputation, has shown The Mail on Sunday irrefutable evidence that the paper was based on misleading, ‘unverified’ data.

It was never subjected to NOAA’s rigorous internal evaluation process – which Dr Bates devised.

His vehement objections to the publication of the faulty data were overridden by his NOAA superiors in what he describes as a ‘blatant attempt to intensify the impact’ of what became known as the Pausebuster paper.

His disclosures are likely to stiffen President Trump’s determination to enact his pledges to reverse his predecessor’s ‘green’ policies, and to withdraw from the Paris deal – so triggering an intense political row.

In an exclusive interview, Dr Bates accused the lead author of the paper, Thomas Karl, who was until last year director of the NOAA section that produces climate data – the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) – of ‘insisting on decisions and scientific choices that maximised warming and minimised documentation… in an effort to discredit the notion of a global warming pause, rushed so that he could time publication to influence national and international deliberations on climate policy’.

Прелестно!

У нас на работе большие политические дискуссии - редкость, слава Аллаху. Но бывает, особенно на тему потепления. Так вот, ссылки на подобные истории неизменно встречаются гробовым молчанием сторонников ворминга. Они даже не пытаются объяснить или хотя бы перевести стрелки.

Честный Ваттс скромно умалчивает о других работах, где получились почти идентичные результаты.

Тут есть отдельно научно-методическая сторона, со своими проблемами, которые тоже можно отдельно обсудить. И отдельно процедурная сторона, на которую справедливо напирает жалобщик. Только я не думаю, что это окажется важно by the end of the day.

Полезно вглядеться в приведенный график и понять, что в первом приближении (а может и во втором тоже) карловская поправка это сдвиг вверх на 0.1 градуса, т.е. все тренды остались на месте. Говорить, что хиатус был на синей кривой и исчез на красной может по-моему только весьма альтернативно одаренный человек.

Всё это буря в стакане воды. Потепление никуда не делось и не усугубилось. Модели не стали лучше. Климатологи такие же люди как все, кое где у нас порой хотят срезать углы и схалтурить.

Ок. Я не буду с этим спорить. Моя проблема с тем, что наши любители потепления не считают лигитимной никакую дискуссию на тему. А возражения вроде приведенного в посте молча нгнорируют. You are on the wrong side of history, и все тут.

All right. I am showing them the very NOAA graph of temperature anomalies as a function of time and suggest that we would discuss it. They answer that there is a consensus about the global warming, that no reasonable person denies it, that this is what the evidence-based science is, and that an urgent political action is needed to drastically reduce the carbon footprint in order to save the planet, and the damn Republicans are in the way. And that no discussion is needed anymore, it is a waste of time. And that those who disagree are on the wrong side of history. And that the students have to be taught that all this is undeniable.
